Bars & Cafés
(by Emlyn)

  • "Le Carré".
It is not a bar but the nickname of a neighborhood dowtown around the rue du Pot d'Or (which goes from Boulevard de la Sauvenière to rue Vinave d'Ile). This square (car in French) is constituted of numerous small and narrow streets in which are located numbers of bars, restaurants and nightclubs for all tastes. It is really an institution in the city as well as the meeting place of most students.

  • Vaudrée: rue Saint Gilles, 149.
One of the best beer bar in town. They have 980 different types of bottled beers and 42 on draft!

  • Vieil Aubel: rue de Batice, 2 in Aubel (small village in the east of Liège, take E40 towards Aachen, exit at Batice).
This inn dates back to the 16th Century. There you can enjoy beers from the region, especially the one made in the nearby Val'Dieu abbey. I personally advise the
"Bières d'Aubel", with their characteristic apple aftertaste and that are almost impossible to find anywhere else. Beware of their high level of alcohol content if you need to drive on the way back.
