Culture
(by David)

Paris is one of the world cultural centers. It would be stupid from our part to talk to you about the Louvre and such places here as many many books and sites do it (better) already.

Thus, this page is more about little known or insolite places, that you might find interesting too.

Cinema

  • Studio Galande: 42, rue Galande (5th, Mº Maubert-Mutualité)

I must shamefully admit that I never went there. Why is it listed here then? Because this place is the place that has been playing the Rocky Horror Picture Show for decades now, and if you're looking for a original/crazy place to go one night, this is the place to be.

History

Middle-Ages

  • Jacques de Molay's Stake: Île de la Cité, Presqu'île du Vert-Galant (1st - Mº Pont-Neuf)

This is where Jacques de Molay, the last Grand Master of the Temple Knight Order was burnt at the stake in 1314. Of course there's nothing left of the event nowadays, expect for a plaque mentioning it. Apparently it's also a pilgrimage place for numerous secret societies.

17th Century

  • Rue de la Ferronnerie:  (1st - Mº Les Halles)

Henri IV (the French one) was assassinated in this street by the infamous Ravaillac in 1610.

20th Century

  • Avis de Mobilisation Générale (General Mobilization Order): 1, rue Royale (8th - Mº Concorde)

A few yards away from the Concorde, the 1914 general mobilization order remains through the years as the smallest monument of Paris (sort of). You still can see it, protected by a glass box.

  • Conseil National de la Résistance (the Resistance National Council): 47, rue du Four (6th - Mº Mabillon)

On the second floor of the building is where in 1943, the heads of the Resistance, including Jean Moulin gathered to create the first united organization of Resistance against the Nazis.
