Introduction
(by
David)
Is it really necessary to introduce
Paris?
Not really...
City of Lights, most romantic place in
the world, etc, etc...
|
It's all true.
However, there's one thing that bothers me when I hear
a lot of foreigners talking about Paris or even when I see them in the
streets of the city. This thing, is that they don't seem to dare to
venture from the 4 or 5 major tourist spots we all know (Eiffel Tower,
Latin Quarter, Champs-Elysées, Montmartre, the Louvre, etc.).
Paris is a city that has more than 2 million people in
it (about 10 millions with the suburbs). In other words, there are
many many more things to see than just these spots. Of course, these
spots are amazing, but they are not what constitute the city, they're
just what constitute the clichés about the city.
All the clichés! For example, you all know (or have
heard) that Parisians are mean, that the city is very expensive, and
even if it's true that Parisians don't rank among the nicest French
people (oh, another cliché, Paris is France, and France is Paris,
right? Wrong... Paris, is just a tiny tiny, unrepresentative part of
France, but that's another story) and that Paris is not the cheapest
place, if you venture away from the tourist hotspots, you'll discover
among amazing other things nice Parisians and cheap places.
Just give it a try.
